Electric Circuit and Quebec municipalities to deploy 4,500 charging stations by 2028.

Le Circuit électrique, in partnership with Quebec municipalities, is preparing to deploy 4,500 standard charging stations by 2028 to meet the needs of electric vehicle drivers who do not have access to home charging.

To support this important deployment, a grant program is available only to municipalities. The financial assistance offered by Hydro-Québec can reach up to $12,000 per standard charging station.

Charging stations must meet one of the following charging needs:

  • night charging in neighbourhoods where electric vehicle owners do not have access to a power outlet;
  • day recharge in the city center and near shops; In addition, the municipality must allow access to the on-street kiosk 24 hours a day, every day of the year and offer free parking in front of the on-street kiosk between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Application deadline

Municipalities wishing to contribute to this effort to accelerate transportation electrification must submit their completed grant application and all required documents by 11:59 p.m. on August 31, 2021.

For the first two years, the program is aimed exclusively at on-street charging stations – consisting of two standard stations – installed on the sidewalks to allow the charging of electric vehicles parked along the roadway.

Quotes

Jonatan Julien, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources

Transportation electrification is central to ghg reduction and is at the heart of transforming our economy.

“Our government has ambitious goals for Quebec and this important announcement for the deployment of electric charging stations demonstrates once again our commitment to the energy transition.”

Benoit Charette, Minister of the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change

This is great news for Quebec’s cities and municipalities! Indeed, allowing tenants or even certain owners to recharge their vehicles when this is not possible, will ultimately increase our goal of increasing the number of electric vehicles in Quebec and thus achieve the goal we have collectively set ourselves of drastically reducing GHGs in Quebec.

France Lampron, Director – Transportation Electrification, Hydro-Québec

The addition of these 4,500 stations is great news for current and future electromobilists who will have even easier access to charging near their homes or work.

“And for municipalities, this is a great opportunity to support the citizens who are more and more numerous to make the choice to drive electric.”
