Verkor, pioneer in low-carbon batteries for EVs, enters the Next 40 for the first time.
One year after joining the French Tech Next 120 program, Verkor joins the circle of the 40 most promising French companies for the year 2023. An edition whose selectivity has been the highest since its creation.
- Verkor enters the Next 40 program for the first time, one year after the FT 120.
- Next 40 brings together companies valued at more than one billion dollars, those that have raised more than 100 million euros in the last three years, as well as those with a business model validated by investors (fundraising) and customers (revenue growth).
- This announcement rewards Verkor and recognizes its importance in the development of the electric battery sector, which is essential for French and European sovereignty and competitiveness.
Verkor, a European pioneer in low-carbon batteries designed for electric vehicles, is among the 2023 class of the Next 40 program. The latter offers support designed for French scale-ups capable of becoming world-class technological leaders.
This announcement rewards a very rich year for Verkor and marks an important milestone in its development. While the company has raised more than 250 million euros in 2022 and expects a new round of more than one billion euros in 2023, the Next 40 underlines the solidity of the project led by Verkor. It also demonstrates its ability to make a strong ambition concrete: to guarantee European sovereignty in the production of low-carbon batteries for electric vehicles and stationary storage.
The inclusion of Verkor in the Next 40 comes a year after the choice of Dunkirk as the location for its next Gigafactory. Its commissioning is scheduled for 2025 and will allow the short-term creation of nearly 1200 direct jobs and 3000 indirect jobs.
Verkor has the capacity to triple its installed capacity in Dunkirk in less than 10 years and to be the partner of all mobility and stationary storage players to facilitate their energy transition thanks to European and low-carbon batteries.
Benoit Lemaignan, Co-founder and CEO of Verkor said:
The Next 40 2023 promotion illustrates the acceleration of French Tech.
“It gives pride of place to industrial projects and projects related to the energy transition. As a young and committed company, we act on a daily basis to reindustrialize our country in order to face the transition challenges that we are experiencing and that we will experience even more in the coming years. I am convinced that 2023 will be a decisive year and that our inclusion in the Next 40 program is a real asset for the success of our project.”
About the French Tech Mission
The French Tech Mission is the mission of the State responsible for supporting the structuring and growth of the French start-up ecosystem, in France and internationally. Attached to the Directorate General of Enterprises, within the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, it federates and animates the French Tech ecosystem with a network of 16 Capitals and 99 labeled Communities, in France and internationally. It also supports start-ups by facilitating their interactions with the administration via a network of more than 60 French Tech correspondents.
Mission French Tech supports the most mature start-ups through the French Tech Next40/120 program, but also start-ups positioned in sectors identified as strategic as part of France 2030 with its first sectoral programs: Green20, Agri20, Health20 and DeepNum20. Finally, through the French Tech Tremplin program, the French Tech Mission allows people far from entrepreneurship to create their start-up, anywhere in France.
