Ultium Cells welcomes Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to Tour Warren Facility, making batteries for Hummer EV.
Ultium Cells welcomed Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to its battery cell manufacturing facility in Ohio. Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted and JobsOhio President JP Nauseef accompanied the tour.
During the visit, Ultium Cells highlighted its innovative cell manufacturing process driven by a growing team of more than 800. The company has started cell production and continues to remain focused on training as it prepares to ramp up. At full production, the facility will create 1,300 new high-tech jobs.
Hosted by Ultium Cells President Kee Eun and Vice President of Operations Tom Gallagher, the tour included an interactive demonstration of its state-of-the-art training simulators as well as a walking tour of the cell manufacturing process where team members showcased the production of battery cells.
Ultium Cells Warren, Ohio Highlights Include:
- $2.3 billion investment in the joint venture to support EV manufacturing in the U.S., and in turn, local jobs, education, career training and infrastructure
- 1,300 new high-tech jobs
- More than 40 GWh of annual capacity with room to expand
- Facility spans 2.8 million-square-feet, equivalent to the size of 30 football fields
- The site will utilize renewable energy sourced from a wind farm located in Ohio
Ultium Cells is a joint venture between General Motors and LG Energy Solution that will mass-produce Ultium battery cells to advance the push for a zero-emissions, all-electric future.
Ultium Cells will provide battery cell capacity to support GM’s North American electric vehicle assembly capacity of more than 1 million units by mid-decade, while supporting GM plans to supply other automotive companies and other industries including rail, aerospace, heavy trucking and marine customers.
