TotalEnergies expands charging network in municipality of Amsterdam with 2,200 new charging points.

The Municipality of Amsterdam has awarded the concession for the expansion of its public charging network for electric vehicles (EV) to TotalEnergies. As part of this new concession, TotalEnergies will expand amsterdam’s current network by 2,200 new charging points, which should be installed in the autumn of 2022.

The installation of 1,100 charging stations, each equipped with two charging points, will give a boost to the Clean Air Action Plan of the Municipality of Amsterdam, which aims to achieve completely emission-free transport from 2030. One of the main challenges of this ambition is to facilitate sufficient charging points to support the strong growth of electric vehicles.

Amsterdam has selected TotalEnergies, through its subsidiary TotalEnergies Marketing Nederland, as an important partner to achieve this scaling up. TotalEnergies focuses on a hassle-free and transparent customer experience for the e-rider, ensuring both the availability and quality of the charging service.

For the first time in Amsterdam, TotalEnergies will make large-scale use of clustering of charging points. The expansion of the charging network takes place partly on the basis of requests from electric drivers. In addition, a data-driven approach is used, in which the load of the current charging network is monitored.

When charging demand on the current charging network becomes high, charging stations are proactively added. In this way, TotalEnergies ensures that there are always enough charging points to meet the charging demand. In order to further shape the required upscaling and the growing charging demand, as many clusters of charging stations as possible will also be installed in Amsterdam.

This policy of the municipality of Amsterdam, supported by TotalEnergies, is a striking example of joint efforts for more sustainable and emission-free mobility, delivering affordable energy that is becoming increasingly reliable and accessible to as many people as possible.

Alderman Egbert de Vries (Traffic, Transport, Water and Air Quality) of the municipality of Amsterdam stated: “With the placement of 2,200 new charging points in the city, we are taking another important step towards cleaner air for all Amsterdammers.

Together with TotalEnergies, we continue to work on the roll-out of a reliable charging network, which is essential for the transition to electric transport. I look forward to a great collaboration.”

Alexis Vovk, President for Marketing & Services at TotalEnergies.

This collaboration with the municipality of Amsterdam enables TotalEnergies to further accelerate its transformation into a broad energy company.

“We welcome the trust the municipality gives us for years to come and we will bring in our expertise to guide the evolution of the mobility of its citizens.”

“We are committed to delivering 100% renewable electric charging services and user experience, tailored to their expectations. This offer is in addition to the multi-energy mobility services that TotalEnergies already provides to its customers throughout the Netherlands.”

TotalEnergies is already the largest EV charging operator in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region (MRA-Electric), which includes the three provinces of North Holland, Flevoland and Utrecht, with more than 6,500 charging points in use and accessible to the public.

TotalEnergies is active in the operation of the charging infrastructure in major European capitals and urban areas: London (Source London), Paris (Bélib’) and the Brussels-Capital Region (Belgium), as well as in the B2B segment in Germany.

This new concession from the municipality of Amsterdam strengthens TotalEnergies’ position as an important player in the field of electric mobility in Europe. The company is continuing its development in major European cities, in line with its ambition to operate more than 150,000 charging points for electric vehicles by 2025.
