Tesla Berlin Gigafactory attacked by climate group causing electrical fire.
A power line near the future Tesla plant near Grünheide burned. A cable was damaged, which supplies power to the construction site. The protection of the state is based on a political act. A letter of confession is circulating on the Internet.
After a fire of power cables near the Tesla construction site near Grünheide (Oder-Spree), the Brandenburg police are currently assuming an attack.
According to police, a fire had started before 3 a.m. 500 meters from the construction site, which also engulfed a small piece of woodland about three square meters. According to the initial findings of the police, several as yet unknown perpetrators apparently damaged the cables and manipulated them in such a way that they caught fire.
They allegedly used a flammable liquid and wired the cables to a construction fence, it said.
The arm-thick cables also supply the construction site of the car factory, which is currently being built. Despite the fire, the cables were still working, police said in the morning.
Political motive not excluded
Also because a political motive for the crime cannot be ruled out, the State Protection of the Police Directorate East and the Landeskriminalamt (LKA) have formed an investigation group.
Tesla Berlin Gigafactory Attacked by Climate Group Causing Electrical Fire
Joachim Lemmel, LKA spokesman Joachim Lemmel.
We are dealing here with power-carrying lines that supply electricity to both a large industrial plant and a district of Erkner, and the use of state protection is appropriate
A sniffer dog was also requested. Meanwhile, a letter of confession has appeared on the Internet. Under the author’s name “Vulkangruppe” it says: “On the night of 25 to 26 May 2021, we cut off the power supply of the construction site of the Tesla Giga factory in Grünheide near Berlin by burning six high-voltage cables laid above ground.”
The act is therefore directed against the Tesla Group: “Tesla is neither green, ecological nor social,” according to the letter published on a radical left-wing website. “Our fire stands against the lie of the green automobile.”
The name “Volcano Group” has appeared several times in recent years in connection with arson attacks. Police are verifying the authenticity of the letter, it said.
Citizens’ Initiative opposes violent actions
Meanwhile, the citizens’ initiative (BI) Grünheide, which is critical of the construction of the Tesla factory, has objected to violent actions at the construction site of the US electric car manufacturer, but also announced that it considers such a thing possible.
Streffen Schorcht of the Citizens’ Initiative.
We feared this because many people do not feel taken with them in the democratic process of settling Tesla.
But the initiative has always spoken out against violence and called on citizens to take advantage of democratic participation opportunities, Schorcht said.
No impact on construction progress
Energy supplier Edis said in the afternoon:
Immediate supply disruptions have not been necessary so far.
Emergency services have been on the scene since the early hours of the morning to assess the damage and to take further necessary steps and coordinate, company spokesman Danilo Fox said.
Meanwhile, the damage caused by the fire appears to be minor. No power outages have been reported so far from Erkner (Oder-Spree). Tesla employees had spoken of outages at the construction site on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Tesla said the fire had no impact on construction.
