SVOLT presents Short-Blade Series with fast-charging capability at the In-house Battery Day 2023.

The Chinese energy technology company SVOLT Energy Technology Company Limited announced its strategy for the year 2024 as part of its 4th in-house Battery Day, which was held under the motto “Let there be light” in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. SVOLT presents a visionary future for the energy storage industry under the keywords of product leadership, customer-orientated speed service and AI-based intelligent production.

Full scenario short blade + full-range fast charge put SVOLT products at industry forefront
As the electromobility transition progresses, consumers have shifted their focus from range to charging speed. Fast charging has therefore become an essential requirement. At the Battery Day, SVOLT therefore presented various fast-charging offers with short-blade cells. SVOLT is setting a pioneering standard with its innovative short-blade-based products, which have a fast-charging capability of 2.2C to 5C. As the world’s first battery manufacturer to offer products of this type, the company is addressing the requirements of all vehicle types available on the market, from passenger cars to commercial vehicles.

Yang Hongxin, said:

The combination of short blade and fast charge provides a more effective solution for the battery performance demands of PHEV and BEV.

Yang Hongxin noted that as the trend shifts to high voltage products for electric vehicles, cell capacity is evolving towards 100~150Ah. SVOLTā€™s short blade fast charge batteries outperform conventional ones in terms of volume utilization rate, recycling, and safety. In addition, they offer exceptional compatibility and suitability, making them a superior choice for CTC design.

PHEV innovations: fast, powerful, future-oriented
SVOLT is also pushing boundaries with its pioneering innovations in the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) segment. Based on “Fly Stacking + Short Blade”, the company has established a com-prehensive second-generation PHEV portfolio that addresses key trends such as lithium-iron batteries, fast-charging capability and extended range. For instance, SVOLT has comprehensively updated its best-selling 62 Ah, 90 Ah and 117 Ah products, and the second-generation PHEV cells now offer improved performance and 2.2C fast-charging capability without cost increases. Their upgrade in 2024 will bring popular vehicle models into the era of fast charging and further strengthen SVOLT’s leading position in the PHEV market.

In addition, SVOLT has introduced the world’s first lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with an extended range of more than 300 kilometres and the world’s first nickel manganese cobalt (NCM) battery for hybrid vehicles with a range of more than 350 kilometres. In addition, there is the Dragon Armor battery from SVOLT, an NCM short-blade cell and the world’s first 800 V fast-charging cell for PHEVs. With this portfolio, the company fulfils the requirements of the 45 kWh to 65 kWh configuration of PHEV models in the B and C segments as well as SUVs and MPVs.
Within the Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) segment, SVOLT is launching the L400 and L600 short-blade LFP fast-charging cells onto the market. With capacities of 105 Ah, 130Ah and 133 Ah and a charging rate of up to 5C, they fulfil various requirement scenarios. L600 short-blade fast-charging cells are to be upgraded for 3C to 4C scenarios, with mass production scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2024. L400 offering is expected to cover 4C and higher to meet the requirements of 800-volt high-voltage vehicles. Mass production is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.
With these developments, SVOLT is strengthening its position as a leader in innovative and future-proof battery technologies in the PHEV and BEV segment.

Basalt: first fully integrated commercial vehicle and energy storage battery pack
In addition to the world’s first short-blade battery for both commercial and passenger ve-hicles, SVOLT also presented the world’s first integrated short-blade standard battery pack for commercial vehicles – Basalt – at Battery Day.
Basalt uses safe short-blade cells and is distinguished by a higher level of integration, which reduces parts and component costs by around 15 per cent. The pack has already success-fully passed the nail test.

New and optimised energy storage innovations such as the sodium-ion battery included in the product portfolio
For energy storage applications, SVOLT has also developed a safer solution based on fly-stacking and short blade technology. SVOLT introduced the improved short-blade energy storage cells, including the 350 Ah cell, which is unchanged in size but improved in system, the thicker 710 Ah cell, which has advantages such as high capacity and low cost, the 310 Ah, 330 Ah and 660 Ah cells with extended life, and the world’s first 6 MWh 20-foot container.

Intelligent AI production and SVOLT Speed Service ensure a rapid response to market re-quirements
Alliance for Releasing Intelligent Productivity in Lithium Battery Production
At this year’s Battery Day, SVOLT underlined the importance of AI in the industry. To strengthen AI, the company entered into strategic partnerships with Intel, Siemens, Rock-well, Tsinghua University, Estun, China Telecom and Octopus AI. The “Alliance for Releasing Intelligent Productivity in Lithium Battery Production” founded by SVOLT aims to promote the use of big data and AI in production.
From the research field, SVOLT presented a first “large model” application for lithium bat-teries that can generate data samples and apply intelligent tagging to effectively support the research and development and production of lithium batteries.
For production SVOLT and Tsinghua University jointly developed an intelligent algorithm. This enables intelligent predictions of electrode performance and globally leading predic-tions of cell capacity as well as AI-based intelligent selection of cells.
SVOLT intends to increase the capacity utilisation of all production lines to over 99 percent, increase work efficiency by 60 percent and achieve an overall plant efficiency of over 80 percent. The company plans to use AI applications and share its experience with the entire industry to help companies make the transition and modernise.
The plan is for SVOLT to use AI to support more than 100 scenarios in EV battery production. To date, this has already been achieved in more than 30 cases.
The SVOLT Speed Service remains customer-centric, focussing on improving product and service quality to respond quickly to customer needs.
Thanks to the product strategy announced at the fourth Battery Day, the advantages of in-telligent AI manufacturing and the SVOLT Speed Service strategy, SVOLT is able to keep pace with rapid product development on the part of customers in every aspect, both in terms of production, products and services. SVOLT will continue to develop its short-blade products to meet the diverse needs of customers in each market segment and plans to utilise the scale effect of the short-blade battery to reduce costs and prepare for the competition ahead.
