Stellantis faces Peugeot model delays due to battery plant issues, Bloomberg News reports
Feb 4 (Reuters) – Automaker Stellantis (STLAM.MI), is facing delays to some electric models due to manufacturing difficulties at one of the company’s battery makers, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Fully electric models such as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 are being delayed by as long as eight months because of production snags involving long-range batteries made by Automotive Cells Co., the report said.
The French battery manufacturer is currently only able to fit about 1,000 cars a month with the batteries, well below its initial target, Bloomberg News said, citing sources.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
Stellantis, the maker of Jeep, Fiat and Chrysler, among others, and Automotive Cells Co. did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
ACC General Secretary Matthieu Hubert was quoted by Bloomberg as saying the company’s “ramp-up is very difficult” but it was learning and doing everything it could to service its clients.
Stellantis said in January it would phase out plug-in hybrid versions of the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, and the Chrysler Pacifica minivan in the United States citing weak demand.
