Sphere Energy, renowned as one of the premier battery technology advisory firms, just announced the opening of their new, state-of-the-art Battery Technology Centre, in Bavaria. “Our mission is to support the local industry in the development of battery powered products, by providing expertise along the entire battery value chain.
“At Sphere, we recognize the critical need for comparable data in the world of battery technology.” The constantly evolving battery market, with new cell technologies delivering ever better performance, has made cell benchmarking more important than ever.
We want to speed up the development process of new battery powered products by providing technological insights about new chemistries and optimizing the comparability of battery cells, enabling manufacturers to make informed decisions based on reliable data.
Therefore Sphere decided to accompany their clients along the entire development process. This includes the scouting of new technologies, evaluating early stage prototypes, testing and benchmarking the performance, aging & safety behavior of commercial cells.
But we don’t stop at the cell level, we believe that being a valuable partner means helping our customers not only understand their results but also integrate those insights into their product development process and build the optimal battery pack. With a dedicated team of experts that mirrors the structure of our clients, we offer a new customer experience that extends beyond traditional testing.

To enhance our customers’ experience further, we have developed a user-friendly Customer Portal. This portal serves as a centralized platform where customers can create test specifications, track their test status in real time, and access all their data conveniently – as if the test centre would be in their own facility. Our benchmark database will further allow our customers to compare their test results and KPIs with other cells, providing valuable insights for optimization.

At over 500 qm, the Battery Technology Centre boasts everything to develop a battery pack. With >200 test channels and 20 temperature chambers, we offer flexible configurations and a wide range of test temperatures (-30 °C to 80 °C).
We take great care of the details and ensure highest precision when it comes to temperature monitoring or equipment accuracy, ensuring precise evaluations of battery performance. Furthermore we aim to deliver this service CO2 neutral by supplying the Technology Centre with a large Photovoltaic installation.
