YouTuber’s Hospital Removal Sparks Battery Safety Concerns Amid Media Caution
A claim emerged overseas that the battery of Samsung Electronics’ ‘Galaxy Ring’ had swollen. A tech YouTuber stated that while attempting to board a flight wearing the Galaxy Ring, the battery expanded, leading to denied boarding, and the ring eventually had to be removed from his finger at a hospital.
Daniel Rotar, a tech creator with 1.63 million subscribers, posted on his X (formerly Twitter) on the afternoon of the 29th, writing,
Rotar, wrote,
The Samsung Galaxy Ring battery has started to swell, adding, It’s even in a state where it’s still on my finger.
Tagging Samsung Electronics’ UK and US corporate accounts and asking,
I was just about to board a flight, but I can’t remove it now and it’s too painful,
“Do you have any quick suggestions?”
The post he made recorded over 7.3 million views as of the morning of the 30th. Rotar also shared photos showing the swollen battery. The photos captured the Galaxy Ring’s inner side bulging and pressing on his finger. His finger appeared red, likely due to poor blood circulation.
Approximately two hours later, Rotar posted again, stating,
Due to this issue, my boarding was denied,
Adding,
I have to pay for a hotel tonight and return home tomorrow.
He, mentioned,
I was transported to the hospital as an emergency and had the ring removed,
And said,
I will never wear a smart ring again.
Another photo later revealed that the ‘Samsung’ logo engraved inside the Galaxy Ring had become distorted due to the battery swelling.
However, IT media outlets pointed out that it’s difficult to conclude this incident as a general defect of the Galaxy Ring.
