Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On April 9, Wuhan NIO Energy Co., Ltd. (“NIO Power”) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Jining Hi-Tech Holding Group in Jining city, Shandong province, according to a post on NIO’s Weibo account.

Under the agreement, the two sides plan to jointly construct 50 NIO Power Swap stations across Shandong province as part of a broader push to expand new energy vehicle infrastructure in the region.

Jining Hi-Tech Holding is a state-owned enterprise under the administration of the Jining High-tech Industrial Development Zone. The partnership will focus on building and operating new energy vehicle charging and battery swap facilities, as well as exploring collaboration in energy storage and battery repurposing technologies.

According to NIO, as of April 9 this year, the company had built 3,249 battery swap stations nationwide, including 978 along highways. It also operates 4,488 charging stations and 25,990 charging piles, while its network integrates more than 1.211 million third-party chargers. Additionally, NIO has completed a national expressway battery swap network that covers 9 north-south and 9 east-west highways, and 14 major urban clusters.

Beyond infrastructure expansion, NIO has also been actively establishing interoperability partnerships with other automakers. Its charging network is now connected with those of Xiaomi EV, AVATR, Chery, Dongfeng MHERO, Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, Hongqi, DEEPAL, AION, IM Motors, Zeekr, Lotus, Cadillac, Buick, and XPENG, among others.

In a related development, NIO signed a strategic cooperation agreement with CATL in March to jointly build the world’s largest battery swap network. The two companies will also work together to standardize battery technologies and advance the new energy vehicle industry.

As part of the deal, CATL is set to invest up to 2.5 billion yuan in NIO Power. Future models under NIO’s sub-brand FIREFLY will incorporate CATL’s “Choco-Swap” standard, with both companies deploying a dual-network strategy to deliver a more seamless and efficient swapping experience.
