Master Battery and the Polytechnic University of Madrid create a Chair of research on batteries
Madrid, December 2, 2024.
The initiative will promote scientific and technological development in the field of energy storage and batteries.
Madrid (Spain).- The rector of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM)Guillermo Cisneros, and the CEOs of the Spanish company Master Battery. Juan Carlos Hernández and Héctor Plaza, have signed a collaboration agreement for the creation of the Master Battery-UPM Chair in Research into Intelligent Energy Storage Systems.
Based at the Higher Technical School of industrial Engineering and Design(ETSIDl)of the UPM, this chair has the main objective of promoting scientific and technological progress in the field of energy storage, a key technology to accelerate the transition towards renewable energies, reduce carbon emissions and guarantee electrical stability.
The Chair will contribute to placing energy storage at the foundations of the electrification of the economy, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions especially in urban environments, and promoting the sustainability of the energy sector. All of this within the current framework of a transition towards more efficient and intelligent systems of generation, transport and consumption of renewable energies.
University-business knowledge transfer
The Chair will focus its efforts on basic and applied research on battery storage and energy storage. Master Battery will provide advanced equipment that will be used for training, research and dissemination of energy storage and conversion technologies.
In addition, academic activities will be carried out such as internships for UPM students at the Master Battery facilities, awards for Master’s Final Projects related to energy storage and the organization of conferences seminars and workshops.
According to Juan Carlos Hernández, CEO of Master Battery, the collaboration with UPM is a “pride and privilege”
He said,
Linking our brand to a public university like UPM, a world-class reference and leader among Spanish polytechnics, reinforces our mission to generate a positive impact on society,
For his part, the rector Guillermo Cisneros highlighted that the chair is partof
He also underlined the importance of close collaboration between companies, teaching staff and students, as well as the relevance of the advanced technological equipment that will be used in this project.
One of the most dynamic technological sectors with short-term growth prospects.
Héctor Plaza, also CE0 of Master Battery, added:
This chair will contributeto finding more efficient and sustainable solutions for energy storage, anessential part of the transition towards renewable energy.
ETSlDl training and innovation
The director of the Higher Technical School of Engineering and industrial Design, lsabel Carrillo, highlighted the Master Battery Chair – UPM “the importance of its specialization in energy storage and its contribution to strengthening the relationship between ETSIDl and the business sector which will result in better training in this area for students of the School and of UPM in general.”
Professor Julio Amador, director of the new chair, said that the alliance between Master Battery and UPM seeks to develop projects of mutual interest for society and the university, contributing to technological advancement in an area essential to the energy transition.
Professor Alberto Abanades, director of the Department of Energy Engineering at UPM and member of the Chair’s Committee, praised Master Battery as
He also agreed that
A national benchmark company with a direct impact on theUPM environment .
“energy storage is key toeconomic development and decarbonization.”
