Hydrovolt, a joint venture between Hydro and Northvolt, is strengthening the team for growth.

Hydrovolt, a joint venture between Hydro and Northvolt, is taking new steps and recruiting a number of new positions. The company has been running one of Europe’s largest EV battery recycling plants in Norway since 2022 and is now gearing up its efforts for growth.

The newly established company was founded in 2020 but has already become one of the leading actors within battery recycling, operating one of few facilities for EV batteries in Fredrikstad, Norway.

Ole-Christen Enger, CEO of Hydrovolt, said:

Norway has been at the forefront of the EV revolution, which has allowed us to ramp-up production and gain valuable experience in our recycling operations in Fredrikstad. We have been working hard to stabilize production of high-quality products, and we are now taking new steps to develop and grow our business and organization.

In the summer 2023, Hydrovolt was awarded support from Enova to develop an industrialized production line for dismantling and discharging of batteries. This will allow for more efficient and automated recycling processes, including capturing the energy received with the batteries, to be used for our own production and the external grid.

Enger, says:

As we are scaling up the successful production in Fredrikstad, we will need new talents to join our company. We are strengthening the team to further develop our plant in Fredrikstad, and to start gearing up for more business beyond the Norwegian borders.

Closest to the Norwegian market is Europe, which is the third-largest market for EV batteries. This market is expected to grow exponentially in the next years, following the sales of EV vehicles. Lack of access to critical raw materials can become a bottleneck for the green transition in Europe, hence building an efficient and sustainable recycling capacity for batteries is key to re-introducing these materials in new batteries.

Enger, says:

We will need many talents across disciplines to help us achieve our growth ambitions moving forward. We are looking for people with expertise within business development, engineering, technology, and procurement to support our expansion strategy.

The company is recruiting seven positions in the fall of 2023, and more positions are likely to be announced in the next year. For questions, please see the respective job advertisement.

The following roles are open for applications:

  • Head of IT and Digital Manufacturing
  • Head of Partnerships
  • Business Development Manager
  • Commercial Procurement Manager
  • Project Engineer
