Gotion builds its 1st experimental all-solid-state battery production line with designed capacity of 0.2 GWh
Gotion High-tech (SHE: 002074) has unveiled its latest advancements in all-solid-state batteries, as several local electric vehicle (EV) battery giants aim to mass-produce the new generation of batteries within the next 2 years.
The battery maker’s first experimental production line for the Gemstone all-solid-state batteries, with a design capacity of 0.2 GWh, has officially opened, it announced on May 17 at its 2025 technology conference.
The core equipment of this experimental production line is all locally produced, and the batteries have already been loaded on vehicles and road tested, according to Pan Ruijun, Gemstone’s head of research and development.
Gotion unveiled Gemstone, an all-solid-state battery cell, at its 13th science and technology conference on May 17, 2024, announcing its official entry into this new battery segment.
The battery cell has an energy density of 350 Wh/kg, or 800 Wh/L, which was 40 percent higher than mainstream lithium ternary batteries, Gotion said at the time.
After 365 days of validation, Gemstone’s individual cells have a 150 percent higher capacity, Gotion said in a press release yesterday, without mentioning specific capacity information.
The all-solid-state battery can pass pin-prick, hot-box, overcharge, and crush tests, with all-around safety improvements, according to the company.

Gotion’s press release did not mention a timeline for mass production of the all-solid-state battery. After last year’s event, Pan told media outlets, including CnEVPost, in Hefei, Anhui province, that the all-solid-state battery would begin small-volume production and begin vehicle trials in 2027, with mass production expected in 2030.
Gotion is one of the world’s largest EV battery makers, with a 3.5 percent share of the global market in January-March, placing it at No. 6, according to South Korean market researcher SNE Research.
Several major battery makers are now targeting small-volume production of all-solid-state batteries in 2027.
CATL (SHE: 300750) was targeting small-volume production of all-solid-state batteries by 2027, the company’s chief scientist, Wu Kai, said at an April 28, 2024 event. That’s the first time the battery maker had mentioned a mass production timeline for solid-state batteries.
On February 15, BYD‘s (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) battery business CTO Sun Huajun told a forum that the company expected to begin “demonstration applications” of all-solid-state batteries around 2027.
