Germany providing €100M to subsidize private EV Battery charging stations, €500M in total.

The government stated: the very successful promotion of private charging stations for electric cars in residential buildings will be increased by a further EUR 100 million and thus renewed. In doing so, we are taking a major step forward for the private charging infrastructure. A total of half a billion euros of federal funding is now available.

With a grant of 900 euros, the purchase and the installations of the so-called Wallboxen are supported.

Andreas Scheuer, Transport Minister:

We want more climate protection, more clean electriccars on our roads and more use of green electricity.

“We achieve all this with our highly successful program for private loadingwallboxes. We are already funding around 470,000 new charging points. We are now adding an additional EUR 100 million to the pot. A total of half a billion euros for the charging infrastructure at home. The enormous demand for the EUR 900 grant shows that we are in the right place with our programme.”

Current state of implementation

To date, around 385,000 applications have been received for around 470,000 charging points.

Who can apply?

Investment vehicle(e.B. private individuals, housing associations, housing companies, housing cooperatives and developers) for the construction of a charging station for electric cars in the non-publicly accessible area of self-occupied or rented residential buildings.

What is being promoted?

Funding will be given to the acquisition and construction of a brand new, non-publicly accessible charging station including the electrical connection (grid connection) as well as related necessary ancillary work (definition of the total costs see under “How is it supported?”) at parking spaces of existing residential buildings in Germany, if, among other things,:

  • charging station has a normal charging capacity of 11 kW,
  • 100 percent of the electricity comes from renewable energy sources,
  • the charging station is intelligent and controllable (with regard to network visibility)

How is it promoted?

The funding will be provided through an investment grant, which will be transferred to your bank account after your project has been completed. The grant amounts to a flat rate of 900 euros per charging point. If the total cost of the project is less than the grant amount, no support will be granted.

The grant can be applied for by KfW via the grant portal and must be made before the start of the project. Costs for the following services may be taken into account when determining the total cost:

  • Charging
  • Energymanagementsystem/chargingmanagementsystem for controlling charging stations
  • Electrical connection (mains connection)
  • Necessary electrical installation work (e.g. earthworks)
