Daimler to recall eCitaro buses with potentially faulty solid-state battery pack. The 21 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro with solid-state battery, which were only delivered to ESWE Verkehr in Wiesbaden at the beginning of February, have been out of service for a good two weeks. Their batteries have to undergo a check due to an insulation fault.
ESWE Verkehr has already had to do without the buses since February 22 and announced on its website that the latest battery buses with solid-state batteries “can only be used to a limited extent until further notice due to a current vehicle recall by the manufacturer EvoBus/Mercedes”. The bus manufacturer has assured that it is working at full speed to solve the problem.
This problem, that is the danger of a cell short circuit:
In the course of our constant product monitoring, we have determined that there may be an insulation defect in the cell modules of Mercedes-Benz eCitaro vehicles with solid high-voltage batteries.
The commercial vehicle manufacturer announces:
Due to the insulation defect, there may be a cell short circuit within the battery
The solid batteries come from the French company Blue Solutions, whose technology approach we highlighted just these days in the course of an in-depth interview with the CEO of Blue Solutions.
According to Daimler, a total of 30 eCitaros are affected by this “possible fault”, including around 20 units in Wiesbaden.
Daimler Buses explains:
The solid high-voltage batteries of these are being checked and, if necessary, remedial measures will be implemented.
“Our customers were immediately informed of this and asked to take the relevant vehicles out of service immediately. The first vehicles are currently being delivered to customers again after the measure has been implemented, so there will be no long-term impact on the rollout or deliveries of the eCitaro with solid battery,”
