Battery Cell Production – Research, Industry, and Teaching: PEM Partners with HYNN from China.
The Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) of RWTH Aachen University and its spin-off company PEM Motion will be working together with Chinese plant manufacturer HYNN in select research and industrial projects as well as in teaching.
To this end, the specialist for post-processing in electric vehicle battery cell production will operate a site at PEMʼs Aachen headquarters Avantis on the German-Dutch border. Product development and prototype testing for various forming systems and comparable machines from battery cell production will be driven forward there.
Professor Achim Kampker, PEM Director, said:
As one of the most time-consuming and energy-intensive process steps, forming is still one of the biggest challenges in the industrial production of lithium-ion batteries.
New ideas for research proposals
The collaboration is intended to generate ideas for research proposals and their implementation. Therefore, HYNN will make prototype and industrialized systems available at PEM in the near future. The plants will also be used in teaching to familiarize students with theoretical content and offer them practical final theses and teaching modules.
