At Start of Production, AESC Hosts President Macron at Douai Battery Gigafactory
Douai, France – AESC, a global leader in the development and manufacturing of high-performance batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, hosted a ceremony announcing the Start of Production (SOP), at its state-of-the-art gigafactory in Douai, France.
Today’s event was joined by French President Emmanuel Macron, whose attendance illustrates the importance of this milestone for France’s transition towards sustainable mobility.
The Douai gigafactory, built with the support of prestigious French and European financial partners including Bpifrance, Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, European Investment Bank and a syndicate of leading commercial banks, represents a landmark investment in the reindustrialization of France and the decarbonization of the European automotive sector.
With an annual production capacity of 10 GWh, the facility currently supplies advanced batteries for Renault, with the potential to power up to 200,000 electric vehicles per year. It already provides 650 high-quality green jobs, with the workforce expected to grow to 1,000 at full production capacity.

The Douai plant is powered by clean electricity and features advanced manufacturing processes, including electrode production, cell assembly, and module integration. AESC continues to invest in local recruitment through ongoing hiring initiatives in partnership with regional educational institutions and employment agencies.
