145,000 battery swaps in 24 hours: Chinese EV maker smashes single-day record
The EV maker now operates over 3,500 swap stations nationwide and plans to launch fifth-generation stations next year.
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio has set a new national record for electric vehicle battery swaps in the country, completing over 145,000 swaps in just one day as millions of drivers hit the road for the National Day “Golden Week” holiday.
According to data from independent tracker NioSwapInfo, the company recorded 145,395 swaps on October 1, breaking its previous high from earlier travel seasons. The cities leading the activity were Shanghai with 9,670 swaps, followed by Beijing (4,892) and Hangzhou (3,983).
Over the past month, Nio has averaged nearly 95,450 swaps daily, highlighting a rapid adoption rate among Chinese EV owners. As of Sunday, the company’s total number of swaps stood at 87.93 million, according to live data from Nio Power’s dashboard.
The company now operates 3,520 swap stations in China and 61 across Europe, showing its expanding global network.
Battery-swap infrastructure expands with growing EV demand
So far this year, Nio has opened 525 new stations in China, boosting access for its growing user base. Its charging network now includes 27,258 Nio-branded chargers and over 1.37 million third-party chargers nationwide.
On October 1 alone, Nio’s network handled 7,545 swaps per hour, reflecting a sharp rise in use during the busy travel week. The previous million-swap milestone was achieved seven days earlier, accelerating utilization as more Nio vehicles enter the market.
China’s Golden Week traditionally leads to heavy travel, often spiking vehicle energy demand. For Nio, this surge underlines the value of its fast, automated swap system, capable of changing a depleted battery in under three minutes.
